Dark academia is a texture aesthetic more than a colour one, and once you see that it gets much easier to build.

Tweed, wool, corduroy, leather, all in browns, deep greens and oxblood. The colours barely change from piece to piece, so the interest has to come from putting different weights of fabric next to each other. Two smooth items together look flat. A knit under a tweed jacket over a cotton collar looks composed.

The library palette is unforgiving of anything synthetic or bright, which is the constraint that makes it worth playing.
