The face is set before the wardrobe opens: eyeshadow, mascara, blush and lip colour, and only then the dress, the denim jacket over it, the hair and the accessories, down to earrings and a bag. Denim is an awkward base because it is already a mid blue with visible texture, so it quarrels with busy prints. Something plain underneath, in one colour, leaves the jacket room to be the interesting part.
