Face painting is a separate stage in this one, and it is the stage that does the work.

The princesses are throwing an autumn party, so the wardrobe is seasonal, and on top of the outfit you paint the face: leaf, harvest and Halloween motifs rather than full costume makeup. Painted designs read from a distance, which is why a small design placed near the eye almost always beats a large one spread across the cheek.
