Rival Sisters

Rivalry is a useful design brief. Two characters who are deliberately not matching still have to look like they come from the same family, and that pulls in two directions at once.

The trick most people find on the second run is to keep one thing constant, a shade, a fabric, a length, and push everything else as far apart as it will go. The contrast then reads as a choice rather than as two unrelated outfits. Let the palettes drift too and the picture stops holding together.
