Poolside is a two-part job: the swimwear, and everything you put over it to get from the sun lounger to anywhere else.

The cover-up is where this is actually decided. A plain swimsuit under an interesting layer usually beats a busy swimsuit under nothing, because the layer is what people see first and the swimsuit is what has to survive being seen wet. That is a real rule and this is a cheap place to test it.
