Visual kei is a Japanese music subculture and its look was built for a stage, which explains almost everything about it.

The hair is architectural, often vertical, and it is the first thing anybody sees. The makeup is heavy and graphic because it has to survive stage lighting. The clothes are theatrical, gothic and androgynous, and they come third in importance, which is the reverse of almost every other style in this collection.
