Bucket hats are hard to design badly and very easy to design boringly.
The game splits at the start between a solid colour and a pattern, and the two routes behave differently. A plain hat in cream, pale blue or black slots into any outfit and asks nothing of it. A check hat is the opposite: it wants either a check somewhere else in the look or something very plain everywhere else, and the game will happily let you get that wrong.
Accessories go onto the hat once the pattern is set, and the princess is dressed round the finished thing.
