Preppy is a rulebook: collars, knitwear, pleats, stripes, navy, and a general air of having inherited the outfit.

Putting that on a celebrity is the fun of this one, because the rules do not change but the volume does. A cable knit and a pleated skirt still read preppy when the fabric is obviously expensive and the fit is obviously tailored, and pushing it that far without breaking the code is a narrower job than it sounds.

Break one rule on purpose and the whole look gets more interesting. Break two and you are just dressed well, which is not the same thing.
